Common is a co-living concept for student housing, young professionals and families
Common is the proposal by de Architekten Cie. in collaboration with Marc Koehler Architects and Bureau LADA for the development of Kavel O in Sloterdijk, Amsterdam. The proposal consists of two distinct towers, a large housing tower of 90 meters and a smaller student housing tower of 47 meters, on top of a connecting plinth that wraps around and under an existing train station, giving the location a striking urban feel.
The design integrates different sustainability solutions. Several green areas – commons – that serve as a water buffer for rainwater are specifically designed to accommodate different functions and users. Solar panels are integrated into the pilasters in the facade, as well as on the roof, whereby the oblique shape both enhances the efficiency of the panels and distinguishes the architectural form of the small tower.
