MKA and social housing cooperative Intermaris are experimenting in Blok 14 in Hoorn with co-creation involving future tenants in the development and design process.

Blok 14 offers 62 sustainable 2 bedroom units, including 44 social housing apartments and 18 affordable market rental housing (middenhuur segment) for a diverse group of residents, from young people starting out to seniors looking to downsize.

During a series of online workshops with the future tenants, using Mentimeter, discovered there is a huge need for social design and communal facilities such as a shared garden, roof terrace, living room, workshop and co-working area. Floorplans were also co- created. Blok 14 proves that co-creation is not restricted to private commissioned projects and highly educated and affluent cooperatives.

By integrating co-created layouts and communal spaces, Blok 14 promotes connection and belonging and helps shape a new neighborhood rooted in social cohesion and collective identity.

Blok 14 is now under construction by Toekomstgroep and will be finished in 2026. Click here for info on Blok 14.
