Marc, co-founder of Open Building.co interviewed in the Bouwwereld on how Open Buildings offer the solution to gaining flexible and affordable housing

Interview by Jacqueline Knudsen

“The most innovative project MKA is working on is Poppies on the Klaprozenweg in Amsterdam North, with Edwin Oostmeijer Project Development. It has an unprecedented variation in housing types and flexibility. Poppies will have communal facilities such as a kitchen, living room, gallery, catering, roof garden, studio and workspaces. The units are prefabricated, Cross Laminated Timber and can be internally coupled horizontally and vertically to realize different housing types. These units contain everything, including the kitchen and installations. The Scandinavian producer stacks them like a tetris puzzle. For this reason, construction can be carried out without a main contractor, but with co-makers for the foundation, the parking garage, the finishing, the installations and the gardens. This lowers the risk profile and makes the process more transparent.”
